2026 General Election
In North Carolina, the upcoming statewide general election is on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. This election is also known as a “midterm election”, as it is held two years, midway, in a four-year U.S. presidential term.
Offices Up For Election
This year is a big one for elections. For North Carolina voters, the following offices are up for election. Depending on where you’re voting, you may also find local municipal races on your ballot. Be sure to look through a sample ballot ahead of time to see who’s running in your district. - U.S. Senate – 1 seat
- All 14 U.S. House of Representatives seats
State Offices
- North Carolina Senate
- Two-year terms; all 50 seats are up
- North Carolina House of Representatives
- Two-year terms; all 120 seats are up
- North Carolina Supreme Court
- Associate Justice – 1 seat
- North Carolina Court of Appeals
- 3 seats are up
- Statewide referendum
Local and Municipal Offices
- Certain local judges and district attorneys
- Certain county offices like sheriffs, county commissioners, and Board of Education members

Voter Dates and Deadlines
- September 4, 2026: Absentee ballots are available.
- October 9, 2026, at 5 p.m.: Voter registration deadline. After this deadline, only same-day voter registration during one-stop, in-person early voting is available.
- October 15, 2026: One-stop, in-person early voting begins. Same-day voter registration available. Early voting is available on campus.
- October 20, 2026, at 5 p.m.: Absentee ballot request deadline. We recommend requesting your absentee ballot early.
- October 31, 2026: One-stop, in-person early voting ends at 3 p.m.
- November 3, 2026: Election Day! There is no election day voting location on campus.
- November 3, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.: Absentee ballot return deadline.
