2026 Primary Election

In North Carolina, the primary election is on Tuesday, March 5, 2026. This election will determine the party representatives for the General Elections happening on Nov. 5 2026. Learn more on our Voter Resources page.

2026 Offices Up For Election

This year is a big one for elections. For North Carolina voters, the following offices are up for election. Depending on where you’re voting from, you may also find local municipal races on your ballot as well. Be sure to look through a sample ballot ahead of time to see who’s running in your district. Use the North Carolina State Board of Elections Voter Search to find your jurisdictions and sample ballots.

Federal

  • U.S. Senate – 1 Seat
  • All 14 U.S. House of Representative Seats

State

  • North Carolina Senate
    • Two-year terms; all 50 seats are up. 
  • North Carolina House of Representatives
    • Two-year terms, all 120 seats are up.
  • North Carolina Supreme Court 
    • 1 seat open
  • North Carolina Court of Appeals 

2026 General Election Dates

  • Feb. 6, 2026: Civilian voter registration deadline, including party affiliation.  After this point, only same-day registration during one-stop early voting is available.
  • Feb. 12-28, 2026: One-stop, in-person early voting period begins. Talley Student Union WILL be a voting location for early voting.
  • Feb. 17, 2026 at 5 p.m.: Deadline for civilians to submit an absentee ballot request form. **be aware it is best to request and send in your ballot earlier than this to be sure that it arrives on time**
  • Feb. 28, 2026: One-stop, in-person early voting period ends at 3 p.m.
  • March 5, 2026: Election Day and civilian absentee ballot return deadline. Talley Student Union is not a voting location on Election Day.
